What is Lifestyle Medicine?

Lifestyle medicine is the evidence-based practice of helping individuals adopt and sustain health behaviors that strongly affect their health and quality of life. Examples of lifestyle behaviors that we focus on include, but are not limited to, improved diet and nutritional status, increased physical activity, moderation of alcohol consumption, tobacco elimination, stress reduction, and improved sleep habits. Our lifestyle practice utilizes wellness coaching and motivational interviewing with a qualified medical provider to help individuals make important and sustainable changes in their own life. Many people experience significant weight loss, a surge in energy levels and an increase in quality of life after starting therapeutic lifestyle changes. The root case of many chronic medical conditions is poor health habits; a significant improvement in lifestyle-related choices can prevent the development of chronic conditions. These intensive therapeutic lifestyle changes are also effective and scientifically proven as primary treatment options for many chronic illnesses. Because our provider is a licensed PA, he can also prescribe important medications when needed or while therapeutic lifestyle changes are being initiated. This is truly a comprehensive, detailed approach to medicine, focusing on the basic, fundamental foundations of real health.
